Our Story

Ahh the Matanuska Valley! A place of remarkable natural contrast. The rugged snowcapped mountains, the striking Matanuska River, and the peaceful fields of the farms make this place like no other. The ruggedness of this Valley and the playground it provides were the inspiration for Matanuska Brewing's outdoor adventure theme. Founded by head brewer Kevin Burton in 2017, one of our core values is "Work hard, play hard." This value and the fantastic outdoor opportunities that the Matanuska Valley and the state of Alaska offer fueled our flagship brews. Long Track IPA, Pack Raft Red. Snow Bike White and Sky Cab Gold got us started with Back Country Blue, Magnitude 9.2, and Deep Powder Porter joining the lineup on short order. We now have 33 beers on tap and a few canned cocktails, seltzers, and ciders.

Matanuska Brewing Company is Located on a three-acre campus in the heart of Palmer, Alaska, in the historic Matanuska Maid Dairy facility. The dairy was started in 1936 and grew to provide fresh milk across the State of Alaska for 71 years before closing its doors in 2007. Matanuska Brewing is housed in what was once the blow mold plant, where the Matanuska Dairy jugs were made and filled. The grain elevator and silo still on the property were built in the 1950s. They were used to transfer barley for cattle feed from the fields in Delta Junction, from rail car to truck, to distribute it to local dairy farmers. Railroad tracks remain on the property and lead right to the grain silo.

Our facility is rich in Alaskan history. Matanuska Brewing Company purchased the facility in 2016 after it sat abandoned for almost 10 years.  Revitalizing the block in down town Palmer while preserving it's history was important to our team as we developed out plan.  As one can imagine, repurposing the facility from a historic milk bottling plant to a state-of-the-art brewery was no simple task! But we work hard and play-hard, so we tackled it head-on and had an amazing and sometimes bumpy ride along the way.

Today we are proud to say that Matanuska Brewery has the second-largest brewing system in Alaska. We distribute beer all over the State. We are pleased to be Palmer's flagship brewery. Located right under the iconic Palmer water tower. From grain to milk to beer, this facility and the people who work in it continue to thrive in the business and at play. Cheers!
